Abstract

The article describes the restoration work carried out on a celestial globe of English origin from the 18th century belonging to the funds of the Museum of America in Madrid. The piece was built by the Adams family according to the plates designed by John Senex in 1740. The work, whose central axis is made of wood covered by a thin layer of stucco and sky chart on paper, had a defective state of conservation due to the absence of maintenance cares, its parts were disassembled and very deteriorated. The restoration process, which was accompanied by a historical-documentary study, was carried out with criteria of minimal intervention and reversibility using methods that combine the treatment techniques commonly used with graphic document and painting.
