Conservation and restoration of contemporary art

Abstract

This article aims to make a brief review of the research projects that have been developed in recent years in the field of conservation and restoration of modern and contemporary art, whose problems arise mainly from the use of new materials and artistic techniques. This is intended to make known, on the one hand, the main aspects of the problem; and on the other hand, the approaches from which they have been approached both in the Spanish sphere and internationally. In these approaches, the interdisciplinary approach and the establishment of a methodology based on conducting interviews with artists must be highlighted as a common characteristic. Based on these conclusions, efforts have been directed to find a way to share this information by the main contemporary art museums, the International Network for the Conservation of Contemporary Art (INCCA) being the most ambitious project in this regard.
