Abstract

Julióbriga was in ancient times a Roman city, which with a stipendiary character and a certain preponderance, was located next to the road that led from the coast to the northern plateau towards the end of the Cantabrian wars, in order to control trade, and ensure the pacification of the inhospitable northern peoples in the High Empire; disappeared under a terrifying fire of motivations and characteristics not yet very well defined, around the year 224 AD. It was located next to "the sources of the Ebro" (Fontibre) according to the geographers of antiquity, today occupying a large area under and around the town of Retotillo, about four kilometers from the town of Reinosa.
