Abstract
The Real Alcázar of Seville is one of the most emblematic preserved palatal ensembles that are still in use today, included in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1987.
Among the most important constructions of the complex, the ones carried out by Pedro I "El Cruel" between the years 1356-1366 stand out, in charge of Toledo, Sevillian and Granada builders, being possible the collaboration of the latter thanks to the friendship that united to the monarch with Sultan Muhammad V. Among other circumstances, the condition of this complex as the residence of the monarchy, has allowed it to be preserved until the present day but, also, that it has suffered many interventions over time. For this reason, it is of special interest for various disciplines, such as archeology, architecture, art history and, in the present case, conservation and restoration.
The objective of this work has been to know the current state of conservation of the decoration
architecture of the Patio de las Doncellas. The purpose of the complete study has been, for
On the one hand, prepare a complete report of the state of conservation of the decoration
of this area, and on the other, carry out a significant sampling of the chosen section,
that in the future allow to establish in a concrete way the materials identified, the
production technique as well as the percentage of original decoration preserved in this
site.
The methodology used has been based on three actions: bibliographic review and
documentary, field work and information processing. The results obtained
have allowed a detailed report of the current state of conservation status
of the architectural decoration of the patio, essential both for its maintenance
as for a future restoration intervention. Likewise, this work has served
to establish the method applicable to other areas of the palatine complex or to decorations
of similar typology.
