Abstract
The exploitation of Peña Arpada constitutes a strategic point within the region located between the Campiña and the Alcornocales Natural Park, in the province of Cádiz.
This rock is located in Alcalá de los Gazules, very close to the 5092 regional highway that connects this town with Paterna de la Rivera. The Cañada Real Mantiagana passes through its base, which leads to the baths and the castle of Gigonza (ancient Roman city of Saguntia). Its geological formation is made up of gypsiferous clays from Trías where several brackish water springs are born. Along with these formations volcanic rocks such as ophthalmology are documented, which was the basis for the manufacture of maces and grinders in ancient times. A large vertical fold of limestone and Jurassic dolomites forms the top of the rock.
This work is a contribution to the study of the interior salt flats, based on field work and the documentation of different archives.
