Abstract
A study of the architectural intervention carried out by Juan de
Villanueva in the convent of the Mercedarias Calzadas in Madrid. Until mo
only the traces of the neoclassical architect were known, signed on 8
October 1791; the location of an unpublished file in the Gene Archive
ral de Simancas allows us to delve into the history of the project, which end
mind will not see the light for lack of economic resources. This article tries
clarify foundational aspects, constructive process regarding the se
second half of the eighteenth century, stylistic analysis of designs and especially in
mark the work in the Madrid architectural context, as well as within the
professional career of the artist.
