Abstract

Once the training in the conservation and restoration teaching centers is finished, the study plan is completed by means of an internship in cultural institutions, museums or companies. Students from the Higher School of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Assets (ESCRBC) and the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid of different specialties (painting and archeology), made a three-month stay in the Museum's Conservation Department National Archaeological (MAN). Through the development of tasks such as the preventive conservation of exhibited pieces, the inspection of warehouses or the intervention on different goods adapted to each specialty, the students put into practice the skills acquired during their previous training in the field in which they will have to function professionally. His work, both individually and as a team, enjoyed a certain independence for the planning and application of treatments, always under the watchful eye of his professional tutors. The experience served to get used to the working methods in the museum and interdepartmental collaboration. The practices allowed to check the unforeseen events that may arise during the restoration process, as well as the time required by the different processes that have to do with the conservation-restoration of a piece, from the documentation of its initial state to the final photographs. The stay was widely used by the students, who were able to get to know the museum in depth by visiting its different departments and collections, as well as its internal and external warehouses.
